Charcoal stripped FBS has been absorbed with dextran coated charcoal which binds to lipid-like materials such as certain viruses, various growth factors, hormones and cytokines. This has little effect on the concentrations of salts, glucose, and amino acids. The pooled and charcoal treated fbs is then 0.1 micron sterile filtered and asceptically dispensed.
